My husband and I hosted a BBQ last weekend.  In preparation my husband bought way too many hamburger buns, so we froze them in hopes we would eventually use them for another party.  We had a few, maybe 8, left in a bag in the fridge.  This morning my husband came up with the idea of making french toast from the left-over buns, what a great idea.  But, we didn’t have any milk for the custard….we did have left over half-and-half!  What the heck, we’ll make really decadent french toast!  So, this recipe was born.  I like to put vanilla in the batter and sprinkle the cinnamon on top of the toast as I’m cooking it.

Pre-heat a griddle pan or large frying pan and melt butter in the pan.  To prepare the batter, whisk together the eggs, vanilla, and half-and-half in a shallow bowl.  Separate each bun and “squish” them down with the heel of your hand to make the a little flatter.  Dunk buns into the custard mixture, coating completely.  Place prepared buns on the griddle or pan and cook on medium until golden brown.  Flip and sprinkle the other side with cinnamon and cook second side until golden.  Meanwhile, pour syrup into a microwave save cup and heat slightly in the microwave for about 1 minute (checking temperature after 30 seconds).  Once all buns are finished cooking, plate and pour warmed syrup over top!  Serve and enjoy.
